IMAGINE.... If every household on Bainbridge switched 5 incandescent light bulbs to compact fluorescents, it would be like taking 250 cars off our island roads and preventing 2.5 million pounds of carbon dioxide per year from entering the atmosphere!
What is Saving Energy Together (SET)?
SET is an effort aimed at the household level to save energy, slow global warming and reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. Working as a community, we can have a big impact on reducing Bainbridge Island's carbon footprint and save money at the same time!
SET began on Earth Day weekend (April 21) as a 3-month pilot project. Energy saving actions were tracked, measured, and publicized here to communicate our community-wide energy savings.
Within 3 months 86 Bainbridge household particpated and together saved about 100,808 kwh/yr; $8,064.64/yr; and 100,808 pounds of C02/yr.
We learned that the most interesting element of the campaign was the not the hard data, but the inspiring, innovative stories that people shared. So, SET is refocusing its efforts on capturing and sharing local stories in both video and written formats. To learn more about Sustainable Stories link here.
You can still participate with us as we transition from SET to Sustainable Stories by folowing the steps below.
Step 1. Check out the action ideas on our Energy Action Menu.
Step 2. Implement one (or more) energy-saving actions in your home or organization.
Step 3. Share your action and sustainability stories!!! Send us an email at
