Planning Commission Green Building Recommendations made to the City of Bainbridge Island.

In 2007, Sustainable Bainbridge has formed an Action Committee on Green Building. It is chaired by Bainbridge environmentalist and attorney Ryan Vancil.

The goal of the Green Building Action Committee is to draft a proposed ordinance that would encourage and provide incentives for much greater use of green building and low impact development methods on Bainbridge Island. The draft code would be presented in the first half of 2007 to the Mayor and City staff, and eventually to the City
Council, for consideration.

In addition to Ryan Vancil, members of that Committee currently include: Council Member Barry Peters; Jason McLennan (CEO of Cascadia Green Building Council); local green designers and architects such as Matthew Coates and David Balas; Satu Muldrow (a Windermere realtor representing the new Bainbridge green-built development called Vineyard Lane); and others. The Committee has conferred with City staff, including Sandy Fischer, a landscape architect who is closely involved in several planning projects for the City.
